Monday's Moments

Monday’s Moments…

“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is Messiah, the Lord.  This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”  (Luke 2:11-12)

Yesterday we began our Christmas/Advent season with the lighting of the “Hope” candle followed by a lesson on the verse above.  Our animated nativity characters gave us a fictious lesson that highlighted biblical truth for us to consider and apply personally in our lives this Christmas season.

Their message was simple and spot-on: “Jesus doesn’t need a spotlight, only a manger to come and dwell with us.”  That truth is worth carrying into this season… God’s good news is still relevant and breaks through – not in the big and flashy moments, but often in the quiet, overlooked ones.

The moments we dismiss as ordinary are often pregnant with the extraordinary.  Sometimes God does thunder, but often He whispers… the question for us this season is not that God is speaking, the question is whether you are listening.

Along with our Advent worship and lesson, we also welcomed Susan Green who came forward to join our FBC family… welcome to our church family Susan!

This Wednesday is our annual FBC Holiday Dinner at 5:15pm.  That same evening our WMU will be presenting a “Christmas Mission Moment” with a report of our own local food pantry and how they help and minister to so many within our community.  This will be a church-wide event with our older Team Kids and Youth joining us to hear this presentation, although there will be nursery and child-care provided.

We are asking each person to bring a canned food item or two as a “gift” Wednesday evening to be donated to our local food pantry, as well as your appreciated meal donation $$.

Again, be sure to sign up at the information table if you are planning on joining us for dinner so we can make sure we have enough for everyone!

Items most needed are: Cans of Chicken Noodle Soup, Cream of Mushroom Soup, Pork & Bean’s, Chili or Kidney Beans, or canned fruit.

This Saturday is Men’s Breakfast at 8:00am, followed by setting up our Outdoor Nativity Scene… Our “Living” Nativity will take place the following Saturday, Dec. 13th from 5-8pm.  We need volunteers to help fill three shifts for our live presentation that evening.  See Jacki Schmidt for information and details.

Sunday Sermon Quote: “God choose to be Emmanuel, “God with us”… not God above us, or God beside us, or God near us… He choose to be with us.  Let that sink in… The manger is the great equalizer – anyone can come to God, because God has come to us.”
